About Sho
I’m a registered clinical counsellor and EMDR Certified Therapist offering online therapy to clients internationally in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. My personal experiences have inspired me to deepen my understanding of trauma and its related symptoms, such as anxiety and depression. I’ve dedicated myself to studying how the brain and nervous system respond to trauma, and how it can lead to changes that affect physical health, behaviour, social patterns, and our ability to cope with stress.
My desire to become a counsellor grew from witnessing a close family member struggle with schizophrenia, alongside my own experiences with anxiety and relational trauma. My understanding of trauma has been crucial in helping me process these challenges, and it has guided me on a journey to build resilience after a medical trauma I experienced in recent years.
I specialize in helping clients heal from traumatic or distressing experiences, primarily by utilizing Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Lifespan Integration (LI). My counselling approach is also grounded in somatic psychology, polyvagal theory, Ego States theory, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
In our initial sessions, we will normally focus on history taking, assessing your needs and goals. By the end of this evaluation, I will provide you with preliminary insights into what our counselling journey may entail should you opt to proceed. This will encompass our objectives, the approaches we will employ, the approximate time investment required, and the activities involved.
